Event description

Description

The one thing few of us were taught in seminary is the one thing that we spend 75% of our time doing: leading. Burns, Chapman, and Guthrie say, "Studies show that people considering the ministry want to preach, teach, disciple, do outreach and care for God's people. When pastors enter the ministry, however, they are often shocked by how much leadership and management are involved in their work."

The plethora of books on leadership don't often help especially since those contracted to write books on leadership, even pastoral leadership, are often now in contexts larger and more specialized than the average pastor or elder. This April, at our pre-presbytery gathering, we will be engaging on this topic of leading our churches and ministries in ways that foster biblically healthy congregations and in ways that are appropriate to the dynamics present in different growth seasons.

1:30 Session 1: Foundations for Growth:

We all want our churches to grow, but it is important that solid foundations be laid for good healthy, growth, especially in the vision we cast for the church and to others . In this session we will be looking at the importance of casting biblical vision for our churches, the significance of proper vehicles to carry out that vision, and the value of raising up fellow leaders who will partner in that vision.

2:30 Break

2:45 Session 2: What Do We Do Now?:

The blessing of church growth can often leave church leaders asking themselves, “What do we do now?” This is due to the inherent challenges each church size (small, medium, and large) presents, thus causing church leaders to realize that business cannot go on as usual. In this session we will be looking at the different stages and different leadership structures that will help the church best thrive at each stage.
