Description

Join President Patrick Deane and colleagues to engage in a day of stimulating discussion and engagement on the theme “Reimagining Experiential Education.” Spend time with peers who are committed to enhancing the quality of student learning at McMaster and celebrate the 2017 recipients of the President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning. Attendees will be able to choose between three different workshops that explore future directions in experiential education including experiential learning in Indigenous education, experiential learning and civic engagement, and experiential learning in virtual environments.

Schedule for the day:
8:30am: Registration & Breakfast
9am: Welcoming remarks by Dr. Patrick Deane and Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Performance by McMaster Indigenous Student group Ionkwanoronhkhwa.
9:45am: Keynote Address from Dr. Chad Harvey, 2017 President's Award Winner.
10:15am: Refreshment break
10:30am: Concurrent Sessions - "Experiential Learning and Civic Engagement: Learning About Cities" with Dr. John MacLachlan, "Experiential Learning in Indigenous Education: Insight & Understanding Through Photovoice" with Dr. Chelsea Gabel, "Experiential Learning in Virual Environments" with Dr. Felicia Vulcu and Dr. Barbara Oakley
12pm: Lunch, Performance by McMaster Indigenous Student group Ionkwanoronhkhwa
1:30pm: "Defining Experiential Education at McMaster" with facilitated breakout groups led by Doug Welch, Vicki Lowes, Sean Van Koughnett
3pm: Final performance by McMaster Indigenous Student group Ionkwanoronhkhwa, closing remarks from Dr. Patrick Deane and Dr. Arshad Ahmad
3:30pm: End of day
