About this event
This class provides an overview of common women’s ice hockey injuries and how to prevent / treat them. Using peer reviewed research, we discuss what injuries are most often seen in girl's & women's hockey and why. We also discuss how these injuries can be treated and/or prevented, and what measures can be taken by athletes, coaches, parents, and medical staff to keep athletes safe.
This class also goes over practical applications of taping and injury assessment. We review knowledge on concussion symptoms and return to play protocols, as well as injury prevention and treatment for shoulder, knee, and hip injuries often seen in women's hockey. Attendees will learn taping techniques for these common hockey injuries and watch a demonstration on how to tape for various injuries. They will also get chance to practice various tape jobs with a partner.
Finally, attendees can participate in a Q&A portion where presenters Luisa and Alyssa can answer questions about the field of sports medicine, athletic therapy / physiotherapy / kinesiology, and what's it's like as a female working in high performance athletics and sports medicine / rehab.
