Imagine yourself transported to the world of Darcy and Elizabeth, of Napoleon Bonaparte and Jane Austen, walking straight into Netherfield, dancing to live music and sipping a frothy cup of syllabub with a room full of charming people, all as delightful as they are delighted to find themselves in Regency England, without even inventing a time machine.
No partner is necessary and no dance experience required. Dance lessons are offered Sunday afternoons. October 2, 9 and 16 at 2:30 pm at Ritchie Hall, 7727 - 98 st. There will also be a lesson the day of the ball, 1-3 pm at the same location.
Dress code is Regency. Some costume rentals available, as well as custom-ordered costumes at very reasonable prices. A Costume Fair will be held the afternoon of September 18 (location TBA) where vendors will have rental costumes available as well as costumiers on hand to take custom orders. There will also be some ready-made costume pieces and accessories to take home that day, such as long, white gloves for the ladies and long socks for the gentlemen. We will also have ready advice for those wishing to make their own costumes, or convert existing clothing into something Regency-appropriate.
If you cannot make it to the fair and still need a costume, you can try Karrie's Kostumes in St. Albert, or The Theatre Garage in Edmonton for rentals. I will also bring my small stock of costumes to the dance lessons for guests to try on and rent. I will also have some accessories for sale. For custom-made costumes, please contact Meg at NutmegSews@gmail.com or FashionsUnderSeige@gmail.com.
Some video tutorials on putting together your own costume, and on the dances, will be posted at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIn1Mil6l-w4f3pPD9wm6WA
