Exhibition: May 8, 2019 – June 20, 2019

Princesses and Horses is a three-dimensional exhibition that explores the representation of human and animal heads, featuring Anyuta Gusakova’s own interpretations. It is a research into the possibility of mixed media to create a harmonious symphony out of diverse materials, including ceramic, wood, porcelain, paper mache, metal work, as well as various other surface decoration materials.

Gusakova finds inspiration in Indigenous spiritual masks, mystical heads of Egyptian and Mesopotamian gods, classical Greek portraiture, and abstract art of the 20th century. In turn, this exhibition showcases Gusakova’s own stylistic development, highlighting the use of balanced geometrical forms decorated with lush surface painting inspired by her Russian background, enriched with metal leaf inlaying, feathers, beads, and other ornamental elements, which altogether create a rich but balanced visual experience.
