Description

The purpose of this workshop is to:

  • build knowledge of trauma awareness, exploring types, impacts and research;
  • discuss the historical and contemporary role of social work in trauma informed work;
  • explore the key principles of trauma informed practice and how they can be applied to social work settings;
  • identify and review how social workers can mitigate the effects of working in trauma exposed environments; and
  • review resources on trauma informed practice.

A light lunch will be provided.


Presenter:

Tonya Grant MSW, RSW has over two decades of experience working with children, youth, adults and families from diverse backgrounds. Tonya has been a Social Worker in the fields of child welfare, community and inpatients mental health & addictions, complex case mental health, and clinical leadership. Tonya is trained in solution focused therapy, trauma informed practice, family systems therapy, and cognitive-behavior therapies. Tonya uses strengths based approaches and critical social work practice to collaborate with people and systems to explore their experiences, their environments and their relationships.
