Event description
Dr. Hadas Av-Gay on Experiencing Learning Disabilities.

About this Event

This is a morning dedicated to helping teachers learn more about students with learning disabilities and providing them with strategies for the classroom. Dr. Hadas Av-Gay will be speaking about Experiencing Learning Disabilities: The Implications of Identification, Diagnosis, and Intervention on the Social & Emotional Health of Students and Parents. Registration is at 8:00 a.m., and the talk will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Topics include:

- Which support strategies are effective and why

- The secret powers teachers have to influence students' success

- The strengths of students with learning disabilities

- Why it is critical to distinguish early intervention from diagnosis

- How the brain of students with reading difficulties work

Hadas Av-Gay is passionate about the emotional and social wellbeing of students who do not meet standard academic expectations. In her previous role as a school psychologist and provincial consultant, Hadas supported teachers and students by advocating for efficient assessment strategies and by designing interventions that targeted students' learning needs while empowering teachers.

Hadas' PhD research used a qualitative-holistic lens to explore the personal experiences of those with learning differences. The ramifications of current BC school practices on students' health and learning are clarified through these perspectives.

Currently, Hadas is a psychology instructor in a college and also a coach in her private practice, where she teaches individuals to recognize their strengths and transform their stressors to successes so that they can thrive despite their cognitive, social, or emotional differences.
