Event description

Description

Calling all citizen scientists, Hillman Marsh needs your help! Join ERCA staff for a one day experience learning about the invasive Purple Loosestrife plant, management strategies and proper removal and disposal techniques.

Stands of Purple Loosestrife often occur in wetlands. This invasive species came to North America in the early 1800s and has spread rapidly due to its tolerance of different environments. One plant alone can produce two million seeds in a growing season and outcompetes native plants causing an overall decline in biodiversity.

This event will run from 9am to 3:30pm at Hillman Marsh Conservation Area. Registration is required as there are limited spots available.Volunteer citizens scientists will need to attend the full day experience. Attendees should wear appropriate clothing, such as long pants and shirts with sturdy close-toed footwear. Bring a bagged lunch and a reusable water bottle as well. All other equipment and materials will be provided.

For questions about the event, call Gina at 519-776-5209 ext. 245.
