Pub quiz for science and charity
Wed 19 April 2017, 19:30 – 22:30 BST
We are running a few pub quizzes to help science and raise money for LCVS (Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services) at the same time! Researchers from the University of Liverpool want to know how our personalities influence how well we work together in a team. Tickets are free and the more teams that sign up, the more money we will donate to charity. The winning team will also win a cash prize on the night!
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are 18 or older and who would like to take part in a pub quiz. You don’t need to have taken part in a pub quiz before. We ask everyone to sign up as a team of 2-5 players, so you need to get a team together before you sign up. Please only sign up for one night.
What will happen if you take part?
If you sign up with your team, you will receive a confirmation email with the tickets, which you’ll need to show at the door. The doors will open at 19.30. After your arrival, you and your team mates will each be asked to fill out a short personality questionnaire. We will also take your contact details, so we can send you a quick follow-up questionnaire. The pub quiz will start at 20.00. After the last question round, we will collect each team’s answer sheet to be able to announce a winner. We will keep the answer sheets, so we can analyse how personality influences a team’s performance. The quiz will be finished around 22.00. The next day, we will send an email with a link to a follow-up questionnaire in which we’ll ask you about your personal experiences during the quiz. Or, if you prefer, we can call you the next day and you can give your answers via the phone instead.
Will I be anonymous?
To make sure that your data is confidential, you will be given a “participant number”. This means that your answers cannot directly be traced back to you. But, to make sure that we can match up your answers in the follow-up questionnaire with your personality scores, we will have a separate form on which your name and contact details are linked with your participant number. Once we’ve received your answers to the follow-up questionnaires and have linked them with your personality scores, we will destroy the form that links your name to your participant number. To ensure the confidentiality of your data until that time, we will store your answers in a separate place from the form that links your name to your number.
What if I change my mind about taking part?
If you decide you don’t want to take part before the pub quiz night, you can cancel your booking and another team can sign up instead. If you change your mind after you have started the pub quiz, you can go up to the researcher at any time and ask for your answers to be destroyed. You won’t be required to give a reason or an explanation. In that case, you can still finish the quiz and your team can still win the prize – we just won’t analyse your personal answers. You can ask request the destruction of your information at any time until we have destroyed the form that links your name to your participant number. After that, we won’t be able to identify which responses are yours.
What if I have any more questions?
Inge Kersbergen is the lead researcher on this project. You can email her on email@example.com with any questions.
