2016 Libin/AHFMR Prize Lecturer: Eric N. Olson PhD
About the winner:
Eric Olson PhD is the founding chair of the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern. He also directs the Hamon Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine and the Wellstone Center for Muscular Dystrophy Research. He holds the Robert A. Welch Distinguished Chair, the Pogue Distinguished Chair and the Annie and Willie Nelson Professorship. Olson and his trainees discovered many of the key transcription factors and mechanisms responsible for heart and muscle development and disease. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
About the prize:
The Libin/AHFMR Prize for Excellence in Cardiovascular Research was established in honour of Alvin Libin OC AOE for his many contributions to the AHFMR including service as board chair, contribution to the health system in Alberta, and to recognize his particular interest in cardiovascular sciences.
This prize is awarded to an outstanding international researcher whose work is deemed to have had a major impact on the understanding, prevention, recognition or treatment of cardiovascular disease and/or the understanding and promotion of cardiovascular health.
