Multidisciplinary workshop/demo participants will make a unique and personal “artbook”. Celebrate your connection with art and story!
About this event
In this workshop and demo, musician and multidisciplinary artist Alexandra Gorlin-Crenshaw will share about her process making the handmade miniature pieces she calls Song/Books. She will then guide participants in making their own handmade book to pair with a song, poem, story, or other inspiration of their choice. Please note that no previous art experience is required, and - in spite of the title, you do not have to choose a song. This workshop may be of interest for anyone who has experience in one artistic domain and wants to explore making connections with other art forms.
Alexandra is interested in ritual and celebration through art - the comfort, connection, joy, and wholeness we may feel when we engage in our own creative rituals. Alexandra’s Song/Book workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to celebrate their connection with art and storytelling! Each participant will be encouraged to make something unique and personal, beginning with this simple and elegant starting point.

A bit about the Artist:
Alexandra Gorlin-Crenshaw is a musician and multidisciplinary artist. She pursued degrees in piano performance, while also honing (and continuing to hone!) skills in singing, arranging, composing, visual and puppetry arts, and teaching. Her performance pieces weave together classical piano works and folk songs, self-accompanied lieder and opera arias, original compositions, projections, shadows, recorded sounds and texts, hand-made puppets, theatre books, and crankies.
Alexandra lives in Montreal. When she is not practicing, creating, or teaching, you may currently find her taking long walks in the city, reading graphic novels, or coaxing her quarantine windowsill of plants to stay alive, just a little bit longer.
This event is also available as part of our Puppet Power: Festival of Ideas All Access Pass and Event Recording Package.
