Description

Unleash the purpose effect with this 6-week course!

Organizations that harness the power of purpose and community perform better, have more engaged employees and more loyal clients, and are better at innovation and transformational change.

In this 6-week course, you will work with a small group of practicing managers to explore strategies for building community-ship in the workplace, while aligning individuals and the organization in serving a higher purpose in society.

Using six carefully-selected CoachingOurselves modules, we will consider ideas and concepts from top leadership thinkers and co-create knowledge through reflection, dialogue and experience sharing. With a maximum of 6 participants, this course provides a meaningful opportunity to connect with, and learn from, your peers in the business and non-profit sectors.

6 week course starts March 8th, 2018 and runs until April 12th

Weekly Agenda

March 8: Building Purpose in Life and Work. Why do some individuals, teams, and organizations thrive while others barely survive? The key is a purpose that aligns individuals and organizations in ultimately serving a higher purpose in society. This week we will work together to build clarity around your personal purpose, appreciate how you can help your team members achieve greater purpose at work, and establish how you can work together towards creatinga purpose-driven organization.

March 15: Leading with Humility. In order to effectively manage complex and multi-faceted work challenges, managers and leaders must go beyond traditional transactional work relationships to more personalized relationships. This provides the foundation for an environment where employees trust they can speak out about what is really going on. The objectives of week two are: understand the importance of building personalized relationship, appreciate that adaptive moves may be the most effective in the face of complexity, and practice leading with humility while jointly exploring one of your own organizational issues.

March 22: Developing Your Organization as a Community. In our hectic, individualistic world, the sense of community has been lost in too many places. With a heavy emphasis on management and leadership, business schools and professional development courses emphasize the individual over the community - and yet, organizations perform better when people are comitted to one another and to the larger organization. This week we will appreciate how an organization can develop as a community and identify strategies for doing so within your own organization.

March 29: Talent Management. People are at their most creative and productive when they are working in an area of strength. This week we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of adopting a talent mindset, and identify day-to-day strategies for building on your employees strengths and maximizing the performance of your team/organization.

April 5: The Rewards of Recognition. Recognition is one of the most powerful and least used management tools. While few would disagree that employees who feel appreciated and valued are much more likely to perform better than those who don’t, most organizations fail to ensure that good work is recognized with sufficient frequency and effectiveness. This week we will discuss how to take recognition to the next level.

April 12: Creating a Culture of Openness. In our final week together, we will explore a case study of an organization that has adopted radical transparency and openness with great success. Learn about six innovative management practices and determine which can be implemented effectively in your own organization.
