10:00 Kelly Friedman - Understanding and implementing privacy and cybersecurity best practices
Kelly Friedman is National Counsel, Discovery Services at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Kelly has over 20 years of litigation experience and expertise in electronic discovery, cybersecurity, privacy and
anti-spam regulation. Kelly was recognized in the 2015, 2016, 2017editions of Who’s Who Legal for expertise in electronic discovery, and in 2011, Kelly was named as one of Canadian Lawyer’s “Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada”.
11:00 Fred Carter - IPC Perpective on Cybersecurity Trends
Fred Carter Senior Policy & Technology Advisor at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC), will discuss current trends in cybersecurity from the IPC perspective. Topics covered will include an overview ofM/FIPPA infosec requirements, discussion of notable IPC investigations,decisions, and a review of IPC guidance on encryption, ransomware, secure email, destruction of media, cloud computing, contracting, breach response management, and the essential elements of an organization-wide security
program, and more. Fred Carter is the principal author of many IPC publications dealing with online educational services, cloud computing, privacy impact assessments, information security, identity management, biometrics, and the impacts of new technologies and services. Prior to joining the IPC, Mr. Carter worked for the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the Standards Council of Canada, and private-sector technology organizations in similar policy and advisory roles.

Shara Spencer, Co-ordinator: Records Management and Privacy Office and Ladan Heit, Enterprise Architect: Information and Communication Technologies will provide a case study presentation on the implementation of a Privacy and Security Impact Assessment program at Wilfrid Laurier University.
