About this Event

Quantitative data is often messy. Think missing data points, coding mistakes, multiple data sources to merge, outliers, and more. This mess needs to be cleaned up before you can play with (i.e., analyze) your data!

This online course will outline the steps to prepare and clean your data in a user-friendly way. Illustrative examples will show you how to tidy up those tables and have confidence in the quality of your data now and in the future. *Note that this workshop uses SPSS.

Learning Objectives & Competencies:

Objectives:

● Learn the steps for preparing and cleaning quantitative data

● Understand how common pitfalls impact data analysis and interpretation

● Learn how to identify issues with your data from your analysis outputs

This workshop aligns to CES competencies of technical practice, specifically: 2.8 Collects, analyzes, and interprets data using appropriate methods

Format: Online course with engaging lectures, quizzes, illustrative examples, and a discussion forum. To receive a Certificate of Completion for this course, participants are required to complete a set of learning activities and assessments.

Length: Self-paced online course (approx. 5 hours) with 2 weeks’ time to complete, and 1 hour online zoom discussion (to be recorded) at the end.

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Recommended prerequisites: Experience with writing syntax.

Requirement: This workshop is directed at users with experience and access to SPSS.

Cost: $150 for CES members, $200 for non-members

Note - A minimum of 10 participants is required for this course to proceed.

Instructors:

Dorothy Pinto has a PhD in Measurement, Evaluation, and Cognition from the University of Alberta.

Louise Bahry is completing her PhD in Research, Educational Measurement and Psychometrics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and holds a MEd in Measurement, Evaluation, and Cognition from the University of Alberta.

Dorothy and Louise each have over 10 years of experience in program evaluation, measurement and assessment, statistics, and research methods. The instructors have experience in health, international development, education, non-profit, and research and innovation.
