Event description
A walk to discover the community gems of Queen Mary Park!

About this Event

Coordinated by Shiloh Center for Multi-Cultural Roots, YEG Ambassadors, Action for Healthy Communities and Edmonton's Neighbourhood Revitalization, this Community Action Discovery Walk is an opportunity to connect in with the unique networks of Queen Mary Park and learn more about what this neighbourhood has to offer.

Using the multi-lingual and multi-cultural features of our organizations, we have combined the best parts of initiatives like Jane's’ Walk and Block Parties to create a day-long event for participants to connect with and celebrate the benefits of one of Edmonton's finest downtown neighbourhoods.

The event will kick off at with coffee and acknowledgement of the Indigenous culture and lands we all benefit from. Participants will be supported to form walking teams and join in with a language ambassador they are most comfortable with. At the moment we have confirmed walk ambassadors who speak Arabic, Amharic, Tagalog, Mandarin, Spanish & French. *If you would like to share your ability as a walk translator, please msg the organizers!

The walk will feature many opportunities to stop and engage with unique community spaces, businesses and services in the neighbourhood. The walk will begin and conclude at Shiloh Baptist Church - the oldest Black Church in Western Canada - and home to Shiloh Centre for Multicultural Roots. We will navigate a route to highlight places like the All Nations Centre, Diversity Magazine, Ecole a la Decouverte Parent's Group, Edmonton Immigrant Settlement Association, Ethiopian Community Association, Queen Mary Park Community League, Central McDougall Park - Creating Hope Society's Indigenous children memorial stone, and much more! The event will conclude with a free BBQ of halal meat and vegetarian protein, along with presentations from local artists, musicians and dances to celebrate the diversity of people who call Edmonton home. *Please contact the organizers if you would like your organization to be involved!

Join in and build community with us!
