Do you want help writing better applications to Compute Canada's Resource Allocation Competition (RAC) to help increase your science score and chance to receive a larger allocation for 2018?

Does your research need large-scale computing, cloud resources, data management, or storage?

Join us for information about Research Computing Services, Resources & Support from the University of Victoria, WestGrid and Compute Canada. This FREE session will provide an overview of some of the expertise, resources and services available to support your research needs. The CTO of WestGrid and lead of the RAC Technical Review Process, will present some strategies and best practices to help researchers submit better applications to the 2018 RAC which are due November 2017.

About WestGrid & Compute Canada

WestGrid, in partnership with Compute Canada and other regional organizations, provides state-of-the-art advanced research computing (ARC) systems and software for Canadian researchers and their collaborators in all academic and industrial sectors. Funded in part through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) other provincial funders, these services and resources are available for free to any academic researcher in Canada.

  • Portals – Hosting for specialized data and tools for entire research communities.

  • Specialized Software – More than 250 software programs and packages already integrated with Compute Canada systems.

  • Visualization Support – Dedicated 3D visualization expert available.

  • Cloud – Virtual-machine development space that includes an outward-facing IP address.

  • Collaboration Services - Specially equipped rooms for video & teleconferencing as well as free easy-to-use HD quality videoconferencing technology.

Who Should Attend:

  • Any researcher interested in learning more about the ARC resources and services available.

  • PIs who have applied for a RAC previously are especially encouraged to attend.

  • University faculty, grad students, and staff from all disciplines are welcome.

Pre-Requisite Skills / Knowledge:

  • No previous knowledge or experience required. The sessions are intended as an information session.
