Event description
An evening of reclamation of queer racialized performance artists.

About this Event

In honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are producing an evening of reclamation for queer racialized performance artists. The intent is to create a space where queer racialized folx can use performance art to express themselves authentically in what tends to be an oppressive, and at times, unforgiving world. This grassroots event is being planned and produced by queer artists of colour located in Amiskwaciy waskahikan (colonially known as Edmonton).

Join us at the Amiskwaciy Theatre at the Royal Alberta Museum on Saturday, March 21, 2020 for Race Against the Machine.

Doors at 6pm / Show at 7pm.

General Admission: $25.00 - Includes general seating at Race Against the Machine

VIP Admission: $40.00 - Includes priority seating at Race Against the Machine, access to a selection of pre-show appetizers and beverages

Community Ticket Program: Your donation will be used to provide general admission tickets to guests facing financial barriers

This event is:

  • 18+
  • Alcohol-free
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • Public transit-friendly

This is not a safe space, but a braver one. You may see art that you find challenging or makes you uncomfortable. Please be respectful of the cast, crew, volunteers, and guests at our event. This space is being created primarily for queer people of colour to be seen and heard. There will be designated volunteers for you to debrief with on-site.

Race Against the Machine was inspired by and created in consultation with DeVery Bess Drag King, who produces "Reversed Racism", a panel and showcase featuring queer racialized performance artists in Mohkinstsis (colonially known as Calgary).

We respectfully acknowledge that we will be gathering on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling route to the Nehiyawak (Cree), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Metis, Dene, Isqa Nakoda Sioux peoples. We acknowledge the many Indigenous peoples whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries before us.
