Event description

Description

The RCCO Calgary Student Organ Academy takes place the three days prior to the start of the RCCO 2018 Calgary Organ Festival.

The academy is offered to students aged 14-30 who are currently playing at an intermediate level or above.

The first two days of the academy will be dedicated to individual private lessons, small group lessons and masterclasses. Students will have access to two pipe organs on site (4-manual Casavant and a 2-manual Walcker tracker) as well as daily practice time on other instruments at nearby churches. The last two days of the Academy will provide students with two performance opportunities:

  • Playing in local church services on July 1
  • Performing at the RCCO Student Academy Recital (Central United Church) on July 2.

FACULTY

The Calgary Organ Festival is proud to present two dynamic organists from Alberta:

Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht – Adjunct Professor of Music at The King’s University in Edmonton and University Organist/Professor Emerita at the University of Alberta and

Dr. Wendy Markosky – Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Department at Burman University, Lacombe, Alberta.

Many students of Drs. Giesbrecht and Markosky have completed advanced studies in organ performance, competed in national and international competitions, and work as professional musicians around the world. Jason Biel, first prize winner of the Montréal 2017 RCCO National Organ Playing Competition, was a student of both professors!

Depending on the number of students who register for the Academy, additional faculty may be added.
