Re-Form Yoga is a fundraising yoga event for Freeing the Human Spirit. It's a one-hour long yoga class, instructed by local yoga instructor Caterina Datillo, in the Jack Purcell Community Center, located in the centre of Ottawa.
Come out, relax, stretch, and find your peace and calm through restorative yoga.
Every little bit helps with programs like Freeing the Human Spirit, and there are plenty of ways to get involved. Whether it's through donations, volunteering, or participating, you can help make a difference. If you're looking to donate, yoga equipment such as mats and blocks are always in need. We'll have a donation box on site for yoga essentials and money too.
The event will cost a $10 admission fee, but will be free if you show up with a mat or a block to donate. Space will be limited to 40 people with light refreshments for sale as well.
Can't attend the event but want to support FTHS? We'll be collecting donations at local yoga studios too.
Our teacher will be Caterina Datillo, who volunteers with FTHS, teaching yoga inside the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre. She has years of experience with restorative yoga and working in the Canadian justice system.
Freeing the Human Spirit, started by Sister Elaine McInnis, offers yoga and meditation to inmates, teaching them non-viollent skills to cope with trauma, addictions, and mental illness.
The Canadian justice system, and specifically our prison system, is currently in dire need of a restorative justice approach.
Through yoga, meditation, calm, and restorative practises, it has been shown to bring calm to those who otherwise need it.
