Event description

Description

Join B.C. Schizophrenia Society on May 23rd as we once again invite family caregivers, people living with serious mental illness, and health care professionals to work together to find strategies on how to best help people living with serious mental illness.

Family involvement is crucial in the treatment process and in helping their ill relatives get better, and stay better.

Discussions will include best practices, and how family caregivers are integral to a person’s recovery journey, but centre around:

  • RECOGNIZING SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS
What are some initial clues and/or signs indicating risk of serious mental illness? How can family members intervene and where can they go with the information they have? What are some standard experiences and challenges that people experience in this process?
  • STABILIZING SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS
Why and how do relapses happen? What can people do to prepare for or minimize relapses? What complementary treatments and interventions should family caregivers, health care professionals, and people living with serious mental illness consider along with the use of medication? What does recovery mean?

LET US FIND THE REASONS TO HOPE & THE MEANS TO COPE
