Before you read:

1. A legend is a tale or story passed down from generation to generation. Legends are created to explain something about our world. Do you know any legends?

2. The Raven in this story is a shape-shifter. Shape-shifters:

  • Possess powers
  • Can take any form though they usually appear as animals
  • Can break rules, be boastful and play tricks on both humans and gods
  • Can explain how part of the world came into being
