Join Sobeys St. Albert's Wellbeing Counsellor Laura Johnston for the fourth offering of this 4-week real nutrition for real weight loss workshop. Learn the basics of weight loss, healthy & active living strategies for boosting metabolism, meal planning and healthy holiday meal planning.

Across four 2 hour sessions you will learn to separate fact from fiction as you discover how to achieve optimum wellness while pursuing your weightloss goals.

This program does not include the demonizing of any food group, we will never tell you to cut carbs or to go fat free. Instead we wish to help you pursue a happy balance of your macronutrients while establishing adequate micronutrient intake as well, from a diet rich in whole and natural foods.

In our fourth session together we will talk about exercise and how to incorporate it into your weight loss plan, however beyond that this program does not include exercise regimes. We highly recommend gettting involved with one or more of the fabulous programs available at Servus Place that are run by highly qualified professionals. Individuals who seek out professionally led fitness programs are more likely to succeed in their weightloss and physical health journey.


Session Dates:

Thursday, September 28th 6:30 - 8:30pm; Thursday, October 5th 6:30 - 8:30pm; Thursday, October 12th 6:30 - 8:30pm; Thursday, October 19th 6:30-8:30pm.

All sessions will be held in the Sobeys Active Living Centre located on the 2nd floor of Servus Credit Union Place, 400 Campbell Dr, St Albert, AB.


Week One - Weight Loss Basics (September 28th)

Calories, what are they and how many do you need? Macronutrients - what are they and how much of each do I need?

Week Two - Turning Obstacles into Opportunities (October 5th)

Love pasta, bread and all things carbohydrates and have a difficult time giving them up? Explore many healthier alternatives that will leave you full and satisfied. Learn about different uses of protein powders to improve your protein intake. As well learn how to get in those vegetables without gnawing on carrot sticks until the end of the earth. Lets make food fun again!

Week Three - Meal Planning (October 12th)

How to create a balanced meal plan for the week including grocery list for success! You will receive one of Laura's favorite 7 day meal plans in this session to get you started. Eat food that tastes good and still see results!

Week Four - Healthy & Active Lifestyle (October 19th)

How and what exercise to incorporate to improve your metabolism as well how and when to fuel for workouts and stressful periods of life.


In each session we will have food preparation demonstrations and product taste testing, after all there are so many new exciting things to try, we want to be able to bring them to you to make your transition to a diet of healthy whole foods easier!

Estimated value of this workshop is over $150 but through Sobeys’ mission to help you Eat Better, Feel Better, Do Better, we are able to offer this incredible workshop at the extremely low reservation cost of $20 for all four sessions. You will not be disappointed!

About Laura Johnston - BSc, C.H.N.C., RYT-200: Laura Johnston is the in house wellbeing counsellor at Sobeys St Albert Mission Hill. Laura is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelors in Food Science and Nutrition. She also holds the Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant designation from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where she current instructs several courses across the program including Nutrition Fundamentals, Preventative Nutrition, Biochemistry, Biology and Pediatric Nutrition. When not helping the public with their nutritional and wellbeing needs at Sobeys St Albert, you may find Laura running, biking or swimming as she prepares for Ironman Canada this July!
