Event description

Description

RECLAIMING OUR TIME* is a series of 6 gatherings in 2018 designed for Women of Colour who work towards championing racial justice and/or reconciliaiton in their various spaces of influence.

Whether your work towards racial equity is paid or unpaid, whether it occurs in academic halls or online forums, you're invited to join a space that's solely designed for our RESILIENCE BUILDING.

Each event will use COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS and PLAY as ways to promote wholistic health and healing. Intentional caring for ourselves and each other is not only an act of resistance, but it's also a way to equip ourselves for the long haul of change-making work.

This first event will feature:

  • 45 minutes of Mindful Movement with Sashaina Singh
  • Courageous Conversations around the questions: "What medicine (strengths/gifts/abilities/wisdom) do you carry? What medicine do you need to help you sustain your work?"
  • Yummy and Nutritious Snacks

Each event will seek to honour the intersection of faith/spirituality, healing and justice. It is my belief that this intersection is crucial in creating sustainable movements that are focused on dismantling hierarchies and oppressive systems.

As the event organizer, I may offer up reflections or wisdom from the Christian tradition. I do this as a way to bring my full self into the space. I welcome you to do the same and collectively we will seek to create a space that honours the wisdom and knowledge that comes from our various faith and spiritual traditions.

* We honour Maxine Waters for making, "reclaiming my time" an iconic phrase that among other things reflects our Divine ability to stand gloriously and confidently in our rights.

Please contact the event organizer if you have dietary accomodations, transportation and/or financial barriers to participating. We want to make sure this event is accessible to all who need to attend. If you would like to make a donation so that this gathering can be accessible and equitable, please email transfer your donation amount to bernadettearthur7@gmail.com with the phrase "ROT Donation" in the descriptor box. Note: As this is a grassroots initiative not connected to a charitable organization, tax receipts are not available for donations.
