Description

RECONCILIATION THROUGH EDUCATION (SESSION 3): Canada's Indigenous Rights History We've Never Been Taught

Doors Open: 1:00pm for Check-In & Registration. We will begin promptly at 1:30pm. Please wear or bring a pair of socks.

CHILD-MINDING PROVIDED!!

There will be a short break during the evening and an opportunity to debrief and share your thoughts, perspectives and emotional experiences from the exercise.

Using the Kairos Blanket Exercise [www.kairosblanketexercise.org] -- a powerful, interactive, tool which teaches Canadians the Indigenous rights history most of us have never heard or learned about, the event covers over 500 years of history in a two-hour participatory workshop, followed by a debriefing session in which participants have the opportunity to discuss the experience as a group. This event will be facilitated by Sister Kathleen Lichti and First Nations Tina Stevens, with the help of two assistants.

NECC is thankful for the generous funding/resource support from the London Community Foundation, London Intercommunity Health Centre, London Public Library, and Northeast London Community Engagement Council. This community collaboration has made it possible for NECC to host this FREE community-based event for the wider London community, and provide FREE childminding to remove any barriers to prevent those interested, in attending.

NECC believes that through this candid, respectful and transformative conversation workshop in an open, safe space, we can all work together towards building and strengthening our city's and country's ongoing diversity, unity and inclusion efforts!

WARNING: The Blanket Exercise walks through difficult experiences, such as Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop and other policies that have affected Indigenous peoples. An Indigenous Elder will be available to support individuals.
