ALL WELCOME * FREE ADMISSION * FREE PARKING * ONLY 45 SEATS

DOORS OPEN: 5:00pm with SMUDGING CEREMONY at 5:10pm [optional]

WORKSHOP COMMENCES AT 5:30pm [Session Duration: 3 hours]

Join us as we explore the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Using KAIROS Canada’s most popular teaching tool, the BLANKET EXERCISE, the evening’s activities will be co-led by Kairos trained facilitators, Tina Stevens (Indigenous) and Sister Kathleen Lichti (non-Indigenous), who will take participants on an experiential journey back through 500 years of Canada’s past.

The activity will be immediately followed by a Sharing/Talking Circle and a breakout group discussion thereafter.

NECC is grateful to Family Centres London for sponsoring this session. We appreciate being able to host the workshop in the Gymnasium of Cedar Hollow Public School. Thank you to London's Children's Connection for providing COMPLIMENTARY child-minding [max 12 children] to enable and encourage young parents to attend this important learning experience!

Trigger warning: The Blanket Exercise touches on many painful experiences – disease outbreaks, residential schools, 60s scoop, foster care, missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and loss of status. Strong emotions can surface. There will be health support on site.

Please Note:

  1. No commercially purchased bottled water is allowed in the room - this helps us be mindful of our indigenous communities just outside London who still do not have adequate, safe drinking water. Jugs of water and cups will be available.

  2. Bring socks as you will be walking around on blankets (keep your feet warm and hygenic)

  3. If you have mobility/pain issues which limit your standing or walking, please feel free to inform the facilitators, and you can go through the exercise seated.

  4. A smudging ceremony is performed just before the start of our session - Please let us know ahead of time if you suffer from smoke allergies.

  5. Parking is available and FREE.

Child-Minding for 0-12 years:

  1. ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED BY WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18TH - Please register each child as indicated in the registration process. We will need first and last name; age; and any dietary restriction/allergy information.

  2. Upon arrival, please bring your child to the School Gymnasium for check-in. A Family Centre staff will direct you to the child-minding room.

  3. Due to allergies, NO FOOD [except breast milk or formula in a bottle] should be brought into the School Gymnasium and/or Family Centre.

  4. Toys, snacks and drinks will be provided by London Children's Connection.
