Description

Reconciliation Through Indigenous Language and Technology

On May 14, 2018, the First Peoples’ Cultural Council will host a panel session and workshop to discuss best practices and issues related to technology for Indigenous language documentation, revitalization and learning.

These local and internationally based experts will address topics related to language data sovereignty, language data security and will share Indigenous language tools and resources that have positively impacted and advanced language revitalization work in their communities.

By bringing this group together, we aim to learn from one another’s experiences, become more informed about what is happening in language and technology, and have the opportunity to identify how technology companies can actively participate in supporting reconciliation.

We hope this new knowledge will move this important work with Indigenous people forward in a positive way.

Delegates attending the BC Tech Summit are invited to attend this session, which will run from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Museum of Vancouver. This is a free event and will include a catered lunch.
