 Presenter:Terry Burton

Bio:

Innovator, educator, author and public speaker in and around prospect research and the topic of naming rights in the nonprofit sector.

After more than two decades of work with charitable organizations I feel that I have learned how to listen better and then see the trends that are emerging. The world of philanthropy has become more complex with the reliance on multiple electronic devices and yet simplified in the elegance of the ask.

The legacy of charitable donations that have been making transformation gifts is the corner of the world I follow and write about. From the stewardship of namesake donors who give again and again to the multi-generational gifts to build endowment funds to the crossover of corporate philanthropy into a marketing driven decision.

Author on the topic of corporate giving, employee giving in the workplace, foundation research, corporate sponsorship and monthly newsletter on recent giving history, Terry has his fingers in many pies in the kitchen we call prospect research.

In 2008, Terry was commissioned by John Wiley and Sons to write a book; his title called Naming Rights: Legacy Gifts & Corporate Money has become an industry benchmark on the topic. His next book, Naming Rights 3.0 will be out soon.

In 1995 he created PRO – Prospect Research Online and helped to move the sector into the digital age on leveraging on technology. Four years later he sold his interest and moved on to create Dig In Research, a company he runs today.

Terry’s primary focus is on developing the content of the Major Gifts Resource Centre, an online collection of databases research on recent giving history of American and Canadian high net worth individuals, a separate collection of ASK Amounts for Naming Opportunities along with benchmark data for capital campaigns and sponsorships.  Terry works with members in both the USA and Canada.
