Recruiting, Retaining, and Promoting Women Police Officers: An International Comparison of Challenges and Opportunities for Change

Police organizations are disproportionately comprised of men, although the number of women police officers – in Canada and other developed countries - has increased over the past several decades. Although police organizations express a commitment to increasing the percentage of women police among their ranks, persistent barriers to inclusion are affecting efforts to recruit, retain, and promote women officers.

Dr. Debra Langan, Dr. Carrie B. Sanders, and The Centre for Research on Security Practices (CRSP) are pleased to invite you to attend the “Recruiting, Retaining, and Promoting Women Police Officers: An International Comparison of Challenges and Opportunities for Change” conference hosted on Monday April 29th, 2019 at Wilfrid Laurier University, Brantford, Ontario.

The conference provides a dedicated space for international researchers from Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States to share their research on the challenges women police face in regards to recruitment, retention, and promotion, in the hopes of informing the development of best practices.
