Event Details

Join the Guelph-Wellington Gatekeeper Project for a free event titled "Reflections on Aging".  The public is welcome for a half-day or full day. The Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington and Age Friendly Guelph are co-hosts in welcoming guest speakers and panelists to discuss issues relating to seniors at-risk, addressing how collaboration and inclusion can empower seniors to overcome adversity.

Registration is free and includes a light breakfast, snacks and lunch in a box. People can register for a half-day or a full day for those interested in receiving the Gatekeeper Training in the afternoon.

Select the free ticket that best suits your needs:

  • Morning event only: includes speakers and panel discussion about "Connecting to Your Community"
  • Afternoon training only: includes Gatekeeper Training for community members
  • All day event:  includes morning session and afternoon training.

This event is accessibility friendly.  We welcome, respect and value diverse life challenges, creating an environment that is inclusive of all.  We pledge ourselves to creating and maintaining an environment that respects diverse traditions, heritages, and experiences.

Speakers include Dr. Carla Rice, who will explore how communities can use arts and technology as a medium for dialogue, education, social inclusion, and combatting ageism. As well, mental health advocates Judith Rosenberg and Ross Knechtel who will each discuss their lived experiences with vulnerability and resilience journeys to empowerment.

Panelists will be a collection of five organizations in Guelph and Wellington County who have contact with seniors in the form of services or programs. The panel will examine the topic of “Connecting with Your Community” and what that means within each organization. We will also have a short facilitated Q&A so that participants can ask questions to the panelist.

In addition, optional Gatekeeper training will happen in the afternoon. Gatekeepers help to identify socially isolated, under serviced, vulnerable older adults who would not typically be supported through existing referral mechanisms, and connect them to the services they need. Training is for any concerned community member who has contact with vulnerable older adults and seniors in our community.

We look forward to connecting with you at the "Reflections on Aging "event!
