Event description

Description

This international conference re-examines family photography, offering new ways of understanding the genre's cultural politics. A renewed investigation of family photography is critical due to recent historical shifts altering very meaning of kinship— including Cold War dislocations, the visibility of queer and trans family formations, transnational adoptions, and immigration under the auspices of family reunification. The conference includes plenary speakers: Tina Campt; Nicole Fleetwood; Gayatri Gopinath; Richard Hill; Marianne Hirch; Martha Langford; Laura Wexler; Deborah Willis; and an additional 40+ presenting scholars, curators, archivists, and artists. Most events take place at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto.
Seats are limited.

Please note that registration fees are not refundable.
[June 6, 2017: we regret that tickets are sold out for the Saturday night dinner]
