About this event

NOTE: This event can be attended in person OR virtually by accessing a livestream channel. If you wish to attend virtually, just select a virtual ticket at checkout and a link to the livestream channel will be provided with your order confirmation.

Join us on the Case Western Reserve University campus for an interactive dialogue exploring the intergenerative diversities (science, arts, business, health, civics & more) that make our communities so rich! There is no cost to attend this event.

We will co-create visions of our region's future. Using the regenerative lens of bioregionalism, this perspective integrates the cultural and natural features of land areas often defined by their watersheds and encompassing Indigenous perspectives.

Joe Brewer and Penny Heiple (Bioregional Activators Network, Barichara River Watershed, Colombia, South America) come to us emergently — a just added stop on their two-week journey through the largest freshwater basin on the planet — our beloved Great Lakes. Activating bioregions with free talks and workshops along with field site visits to different landscapes, they join us through the broad systems work of the Legacy Project in Toronto, decade-long collaborators of the bioregion’s Intergenerational Schools in Cleveland’s Collinwood, Buckeye and Ohio City neighborhoods. Joe and Penny's additional stops include Toronto, Canada, and Rochester, Ithaca and Binghamton, New York.

Joe Brewer is a transdisciplinary scholar with a background in both earth sciences and cognitive sciences. He's an inspiring speaker and leading-edge complexity thinker. He's currently doing on-the-ground regeneration work in a 500,000 ha bioregion around Barichara, Colombia, and helping to create a global bioregional network. He is founder of the Design Institute for Regenerating Earth and author of The Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth.

Our intergenerational event on the southern shore of Great Lake Erie will be honored by the presence of YOU – as part of an ever-growing list of invited pioneering thinkers, activists and sponsors, including David Orr, David Beach, Kimberly Foreman, Norman Robbins, CWRU Office of Energy & Sustainability, CWRU Climate Action Network, CWRU Student Sustainability Ambassadors, University Farm, CWRU Health & Climate Education Collaborative, CWRU Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, CWRU Weatherhead School of Management Department of Organizational Behavior, Lake Erie Institute, Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health, EcoWatch for a Healthier Planet & Life, Cleveland’s Intergenerational Schools, Peter Whitehouse, and more.

****

After our event ends at 6:00 pm, you are invited to stay for a Case community watch party / online discussion with author Thomas Nail, whose philosophy of movement has resulted in 11 books in the past 10 years and whose Theory of the Earth is the first book of philosophical geology in over 100 years, part of Jeremy Bendik-Keymer’s Anti-Racism, Anti-Colonialism & Climate Change Spring 2023 series. The event runs 6:30-8:00 pm.
