Workshop Description:

The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on early years and primary education. The approach was developed after World War II by psychologist and pedagogista Loris Malaguzzi in collaboration with parents in the villages around the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy. The approach is based on the belief that children are innately capable of producing knowledge and culture when provided with a rich environment & emergent learning opportunities. In the past few years, the field of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education have become more interested in the rich possibilities this approach provides both to children and educators. Concepts such as emergent curriculum, inquiry-based learning & project-based learning have been more explored by educators both in ECE and elementary schools.

If you are interested in learning more about this approach, this workshop is a great start for you! In this 2-part workshop, we will be exploring the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach and some of its most important principles. The workshop will give you the opportunity to understand the Reggio approach better & will serve as an introduction for other workshops to be offered in the near future.

In the first session of this dual-track workshop (September 25th), we will be exploring the history and philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach.

In the second session of this dual-track workshop (October 2nd), we will be exploring some the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach. This workshop will be most effective if participants have completed the first session.
