Event description

The Renewable Energy Inquiry and Engineering series is a FREE two-day professional development training open to K-12 teachers made possible by the Arconic Foundation and CE. This inquiry-based, hands-on science and engineering training program offers a review of the science, technology, and classroom applications of clean energy applicable for all grade bands.

Teachers have the option to go to either day of this workshop, or both. Each day will look significantly different. Please note the focuses for each day below to choose your level of attendance accordingly:

On Day 1, teachers will:

  • Explore hands-on mini-projects that demonstrate NGSS teaching strategies

  • Learn the fundamentals of energy content, ranging from solar-thermal energy conversions to electricity

  • Build confidence in using hands-on tools available to them through the IU

On Day 2, teachers will:

  • Work with specific NGSS-aligned units of curriculum, selected by CE and the IU for various grade bands

  • Collaborate in differentiated groups to plan the integration of new career-connected energy curriculum into the classroom

  • Gain extended experience in working with hands-on supplies correlating to individual units

Note: If teachers attended the March 2017 Workshop with CE and Arconic, they will still find Day 1 to be a good refresher, with new content added.

About the Arconic Foundation:

Arconic Foundation is proud to support CE and bring this innovative program to Arconic communities nationwide. Arconic Foundation’s mission is to support non-profit partners who advance STEM Education and Workforce Development in Arconic communities. We view support for K-12 STEM programs as critical to shaping the workforce of the future – the economic future of our communities and the advanced manufacturing industry depends on it. By investing early in impactful STEM curricula, we can spark the imagination of our youth and set them on a path that encourages creativity and innovation – the very skills that make Arconic and other advanced manufacturers successful. CE is a proven and innovative model that we believe can bring to life the issues and solutions around energy management. Energy is a critical component of what we do in industry and in all of our personal lives – it is a topic that we want our youth educated about so that they can solve the problems of tomorrow. About CE: CE is a nationwide career connected energy education program from Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Together with schools, educators and industry, we strive to build a clean energy future to ensure that our communities and the environment are thriving and resilient. We work to expand access to opportunities for all students regardless of their geography, gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. CE is funded by corporations, regional utilities, and philanthropic organizations. To date, our funders have impacted more than 150,000 students nationwide through CE programming.
