Event description

Description

This workshop will guide participants through the strengths and limitations of representational and identity based politics within movement building efforts. This form of politics has helped to propel social movements and expand racial consciousness over the past three decades. However, some aspects of this political framework can help to advance the narrowed interests of capitalists and profit-driven leaders, who also may also originate from marginalized identity groups, and who do not share similar liberation goals or ideology. Therefore, this workshop will define some of the short-comings related to this political framework and provide the space for participants to consider other ways of building both intersectional and anti-capitalist movements.
