The focus of this session is to introduce Resettlement Group members to the Y’s new pre-arrival program called “Next Stop Canada” which is a web based platform. The adult program, Electronic Newcomer Information Centre (ENIC) is designed to help refugees through our office while they are still overseas, helping them receive meaningful information and referral to services in the GTA as well as preparation and orientation before their arrival to Canada. The platform includes many services including, a live chat assessment of their needs, referral and information, live webinars on topics such as “Four Key Steps to Labor Market Information”, “Credential Assessment”, “First Few Weeks in Canada” and many more. In addition there are an array of professional mentors and an online Q and A Forum. The sister program Youth Pre-Arrival Learning Site (YPALS) targets youth between the ages of 12-19 where youth can take part of interactive learning, webinars, youth mentorship and much more. The seminar will go into much detail about services available and how to access them. This seminar has been specifically developed towards the Resettlement Group members involved with the Office for Refugees Archdiocese of Toronto. This seminar will give resettlement groups more resources in order to help build communication and rapport between the refugees in the process of resettlement.
The Resettlement Group (RG) Seminar is an opportunity for resettlement group members and volunteers to share and learn from each other's experiences best practices to deal with different integration needs of newcomers in our parish communities.
You will gain greater understanding of needs of refugees and the best way to manage their expectations, while building trust and setting the rules of your support. The RG seminar will enable resettlement group members to develop effective tools to help integrate sponsored refugees successfully in their church communities.
All parish volunteers involved in helping to resettle refugees sponsored in the Archdiocese of Toronto are welcome to participate in this group sharing session.
