About this Event

Resilience for the Frontline

Are you an organization or frontline worker seeking understanding and awareness about gaining resilience to survive the intensity of your employment? If you are a frontline worker; Police, Fire, E.M.S, Military, Victim Services, Search and Rescue, Clinician, Harm reduction staff, Nurse or other healthcare staff this training is for YOU. It can assist you in gaining an understanding of workplace trauma and preventing burnout related to critical incidents and post traumatic stress. Bruce Ramsay will present information to support your understanding of trauma.

This Presentation will offer:

  • An understanding of trauma in the workplace as it relates to your “normal” employment expectations as a frontline worker.
  • Exploration of the human stress responses and how stress impacts our day-to-day functioning and task management.
  • Descriptions of the impacts of chronic stress and the link between critical incidents and post traumatic stress.
  • Suggestions for management of job related stress and overcoming trauma, increasing resiliency.
  • Networking opportunities and resources for overcoming traumatic events, day-to-day workplace stress and enhancing community amongst Frontline Staff.
  • Letter of completion available for participants to submit in request of Continuing educational credits with their licensing board, depending on their occupation and scope of practice.

October 4th, Friday, 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

  • 10:30 am-Coffee and snacks provided in the morning
  • 12:30-1:00 pm-Delicious Buffet Lunch will be served for all participants-included in the event fees.

Presenter:

Bruce Ramsay, Certified Traumatologist, CTR, TFT-ADV.

Bruce Ramsay, retired as Deputy Fire Chief from the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services after thirty years of service.  He is currently a Critical Incident Stress Management Trainer, Counsellor and Consultant in private practice. 

Bruce is an Aboriginal person (Métis) as defined in the Canadian Constitution and has worked in First Nations (Canada) and American Indian communities over the last twenty-five years providing CISM training to Mental Health Professionals, Counsellors, Tribal Police and community front line responders.

The Traumatology Institute of South Florida University recognizes Bruce as a Certified Traumatologist.  He is also a Certified Trauma Responder with the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists and is a past Vice President of that organization.  He is a well known speaker on the management and development of trauma services, having presented on behalf of the Justice Institute, First Nations’ Emergency Services of BC, the Yukon Aboriginal Health Program, BC Fire Chiefs Association, Aberdeen Indian Health Services, Oklahoma University Health Promotions, Aramco-Saudi Arabia and on several occasions at the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) World Congress on Stress, Trauma and Coping in the Emergency Professions.
