Native Women's Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) is offering a 2-day training and knowledge sharing symposium centered around sexual violence in the Indigenous community; the roots, the impact, and pathways to providing culturally-informed & relevant support to Indigenous survivors of sexual violence.
Day 1- includes speakers touching on the historical roots of sexual violence towards Indigenous women, teachings from Elders, Two Spirited teachings, presentations from Indigenous survivors of sexual violence and an introduction to the response model developed and practiced at NWRCT.
Day 2 - opens with a key note address by Dr. Cyndy Baskin of Ryerson University School of Social Work, a panel presentation of Indigenous service providers,and an opportunity for participants to apply their gained knowledge and existing expertise in an asset mapping & case study exercise that will build pathways of support for Indigenous women.
Front line workers, policy makers, community organizers, police officers, educators, medical and health professionals are all welcome to attend.
