he Refugee Sponsorship Training Program's (RSTP) Toronto Refugee Sponsorship Support Initiative (Toronto RSS) will be hosting this workshop about Managing
Expectations and Sponsorship Ethics.
This workshop is intended for the private sponsors of refugees, and will explore various themes including:
- Managing expectations: What are sponsors’ and refugees’ expectations of each other, and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict?
- Code of ethics for private sponsoring groups: What are some ethical practices that private sponsors may wish to consider?
- Power imbalance: How do power imbalances affect the relationship between sponsors and refugees, and how can they be minimized?
The Resettlement Group (RG) Seminar is an opportunity for resettlement group members and volunteers to share and learn from each other's experiences best practices to deal with different integration needs of newcomers in our parish communities.
You will gain greater understanding of needs of refugees and the best way to manage their expectations, while building trust and setting the rules of your support. The RG seminar will enable resettlement group members to develop effective tools to help integrate sponsored refugees successfully in their church communities.
All parish volunteers involved in helping to resettle refugees sponsored in the Archdiocese of Toronto are welcome to participate in this group sharing session.
