Description

2020 Research & Innovation Week Opening Ceremonies

Lakehead University’s Research & Innovation Week is an annual celebration and showcase of research and innovation excellence at the University, and within the community. This year’s theme is “Our Creative Mind”.

“When we think about "creativity," we may imagine artists/scientists conjuring up fantastic ideas that come from the depths of their inventive minds. Collectively, we connect our ideas, knowledge, and curiosity to create our realities. Using our creative mind, we focus on what exists, and strive to look at reality from different perspectives. Together we imagine, innovate, and discover ways through our research to improve our lives, and better our world.”

We are delighted to announce Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada will be the keynote speaker for the event. Before becoming Governor General, Julie Payette was an astronaut, engineer, scientific broadcaster and corporate director. From 1992 to 2013, Ms. Payette worked as an astronaut and flew two missions in space. She also served many years as CAPCOM (Capsule Communicator) at NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas, and was Chief Astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency.
