RISE UP MIGHTY WARRIOR – 1st ANNUAL VIOLENCE AWARENESS & PREVENTION EVENT
The goals of Rise Up Mighty Warrior are to raise awareness of the long-term impacts of violence against women and improve violence prevention, personal safety skills, and knowledge. Women Warriors will host this event in Lloydminster, Alberta in collaboration with Lakeland College, and the Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre.
Shelley Wiart, founder of Women Warriors was inspired to host this event to create a safe space for her participants of Women Warriors to discuss their health and safety, promote critical dialogue and knowledge about women’s safety, and engage community members. This event will provide the opportunity to build relationships and knowledge sharing between Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members, leaders, academics, health care providers, community service providers, and businesses.
This event will begin at Lakeland College on Thursday, October 13th at 6:30 pm with keynote speaker and safety expert, Debra deWaal. The following day, Friday, October 14th will be the full day conference at the Days Hotel & Suites Lloydminster.
