Event description
Riverside Walks 2020 is kicking it off with the Wild Plant Walk led by Clinical Herbalist Danette Steele.

About this Event

Riverside Walks 2020 – our free guided walking tours series in Toronto's Riverside neighbourhood – is back for another season! This year the series is starting off with the ‘Wild Plant Walk’ on Saturday, May 2nd – led by Danette Steele, a respected herbalist, forager and farmer.

If you would like to learn to identify local wild plants that can be used for food and medicine, and how they support our eco-system and pollinators – come on out and join us on this animated Riverside Jane’s Walk!

Danette will bring you to some of her favourite places in the area, so you can get to know a few of her wild plant friends – like Coltsfoot, Mugwort, Clockflower and Nettles. As we wander through laneways, parks and hidden gardens, Danette will share stories and teachings about the plants we meet along the way. You will gain new insight into the urban green world around us and you may even find yourself slowing down to take a deep breath and connect with the plants.

Be sure to BYOM (bring your own mug) – as Danette will offer some of her yummy herbal teas before the start of the walk. Please try to arrive about 5 minutes early if you would like some tea.

Meet outside of the Queen/Saulter Library Branch (765 Queen St East at Saulter Street) – this guided walk will end at Joel Weeks Park (10 Thompson St, Toronto, ON M4M 1L9).

Accessibility notes: This Walk follows Toronto sidewalks and laneways and ends in a local Park. The pace for this walk is leisurely and is all outdoors. There will be natural rest breaks during the walk – and strollers, dogs on leash and bicycles are welcome. WALK – from 11am to 1pm on Saturday MAY 2nd, 2020.
