Robotic Welding - How To Adapt To Real Life Conditions

Robotics used to be applicable almost exclusively to repeat parts (hence the major use in automotive industry). It is no longer the case. Several tools have been developed to help users apply robotics to one-off parts, to deal with imperfect part fit-up and to allow higher tolerances to the automated processes. Some of those software/hardware tools have been around for quite a long time while others have only been released recently. This presentation gives an overview of those tools that are available today to help the industry deal with real life conditions and how simplified offline programming, combined with seam finding, seam tracking, and adaptive welding can be used together to apply robotics successfully to single parts.
Speaker – Christian Lefebvre, W.E.T., P.Eng.
Christian Lefebvre is a CWB welding engineer with AGT robotics since 2010. Currently based in Alberta, he graduated as a materials Engineer from Laval University in Quebec City. He is also a Welding Engineering Technologist from Cegep de Trois-Rivières. Having more than 15 years of experience in welding, he also worked for ESAB Welding & Cutting Products as well as Marmen, a wind tower manufacturer in Quebec. Christian Lefebvre is part of the 30 Education Insight Stream Speakers.
