ARTIST BIO's:

MADELYN READ

Though she may have spent her whole life in the city of Vancouver BC, Madelyn’s heart is in the rural tales of Folk/Americana music. This duality of urban and country is ever present in her work, as she pulls inspiration from Folk/Americana groups like I’m with Her, Joni Mitchell, and First Aid Kit and blends these sounds with lyrics about growing up in an urban centre. Her debut album, "Concrete Country," pairs fiddle, pedal steel, and three part harmonies with stories of city living to create a unique collection of music that speaks to both urban and rural listeners alike.

JANKY BUNGAG

Vancouver based country / bluegrass music. You can call it cow-punk, farm rock, barn burner, but we just like to call it a good time! Fast bluegrass picking and a high lonesome sound will surely kick up some dust at a dance floor near you.

EMMETT JEROME

Emmett Jerome is a young roots musician hailing from the Foothills of Southern Alberta. After spending his teenage years playing blues and country barrooms he relocated to Vancouver, quickly establishing himself as a top-tier sideman and performer.

Rooted in classic country and blues, Emmett also incorporates elements of jazz and bluegrass into his energetic performances. He has spent the last year gigging and traveling throughout the continent, and looks forward to making his debut as a recording artist in 2023.

ROOT DWELLERS RESIDENT POET:

ELLIOTT SLINN

"Elliott Slinn was named New Westminster’s fifth (and youngest) Poet Laureate in June 2021, actively beginning his tenure in August. His work has been described as immediate and accessible, as he explores the existential events of our day-to-day existence. His goal is to break the barriers surrounding poetry, and to bridge the gap from heart to heart."

At our events, you'll find Elliott perched atop a high table with his 1929 typewriter. He spends the evening crafting stunning poetry, by donation, for our audience members. All you have do is approach him, give him a word or a short story and he'll produce the most magical piece of personalized poetry for you.
