About the Class
Over the past few months, we have seen a dramatic change in monetary policy. After years of very low interest rates and quantitative easing, the Bank of Canada has increased rates in multiple instances, pushing borrowing costs to the highest since 2008. In this very interactive class, we will discuss the missions of central banks and their policy tools. I will introduce you to the historical origins and economic rational of these institutions. The final question we will answer is the following: should the governor increase rates again in 2023?
