Rough and Tumble Play - Another View on Risky Play

About this Event

As educators of young children we have seen it all!

Play fighting, animated active play, excitable movements, looks and shrieks of pure joy while being chased and/or running away from peers, and so much more!

At first glance, rough and tumble play could be interpreted as aggressive behaviour. However, what often is overlooked are the countless benefits to children's overall well-being and development this type of play can offer.

Rough and tumble play allows children to explore concepts of self-control, empathy, boundaries, and increase an awareness of their own abilities.

In this session we will explore questions such as:

  • What could rough and tumble play look like in your program?
  • How might you empower children to consider their own safety and well-being in rough and tumble play?
  • How can rough and tumble play be extended through music and movement?

Instructions for parking: Please note that parking is free at this location for participants. When you enter the building's parking lot, buzz the guard and explain you are here for Toronto Children's Services. After you park, speak to the guard in the lobby, not the building's security.

Please be aware that this is a scent-free facility.
