REQUIREMENTS: Due to safety concerns, this workshop is not suitable for anyone with hand, wrist, or elbow problems.
During this fun beginner workshop we will cover all aspects of creating a small rug project! Alan will slowly guide you through the steps to help get you started on creating your own little rug project. As this is an introductory class, you can expect to develop the basics skills needed and gain the knowledge to complete your project. An instructional sheet will be provided for you to take with you, as this is a skill that takes time to fully develop. Therefore, you can continue your project at home or build upon your skills in a future workshop.
Participants will learn how to create art using fiber, by pulling cut strips of wool through a woven substrate. Alan will help get you started and provide an overview of the essentials to get your project underway, so that you will leave feeling more confident in your new hobby craft.
Included to take home: Pattern, burlap and wool used during the workshop.
Not included: All rug hooking supplies is provided to *use* during this workshop only. You will need to purchase a latch hook, frame & wool, to complete this project at home.
Instructor Bio:
Alan Pippy is a Nova Scotian Artist who, has enjoyed drawing and mixed media art since an early age. In his younger years he enjoyed blacksmithing, sculpture, drawing and still life painting. His most recent passion for creativity includes, building guitars and a wide range of mixed media arts.
Alan is friendly and soft spoken and enjoys sharing his love for art with others. He believes that there is an artist hidden inside of all us and that an open mind is the key to tapping into your creative self.
What can you expect during a workshop at Sparkles n' Sawdust Studio?
▪ Reduced class sizes (2 people maximum)
▪ Social distancing, with individual trifold plexiglass cubicles spaced 2 meters apart for each person
▪ We have a strict zero contact policy
▪ All of the supplies divided up in advance, with no sharing needed
▪ Wall mounted hand sanitizer
▪ Controlled environment - with no foot traffic
▪ Thoroughly sanitized before each workshop
▪ Masks are required when participating in any workshop at Sparkles n' Sawdust Studio. By law those who have a valid medical reason for not wearing a mask, are exempt from this rule. We know that it's not fun to wear them but, we want to be able to continue to safely offer our services to the public and to spread the joy of creativity!
