Event description
Rug Hooking and Punch Hooking

About this Event

Punch hooking or needle punching involve working from the back of the fabric to create an amazing pattern. Punch hooking uses yarn and cloth strips, producing a rich surface of loops, similar to traditional rug hooking. It is a forgiving craft and will give you skills to create any pattern or design in fibre.

Rug hooking is both an art and a craft where rugs are made by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through monkcloth.

You will need a punch-hook, rug hook, frame or no-slip hoop, yarns and monkscloth backing. All materials and tools will be available for sale or can be purchased at Sew Much More. Bring a bag of your leftover yarn to use, an idea for a simple design suitable for a 14” round chairpad, scissors and a Sharpie. ICloth strips can be used, and I will some for you to try.

Sara Judith has been hooking for over 15 years and is internationally known as a teacher of both traditional hooking and punch hooking. She has a background in dyeing, spinning, weaving, felting and knitting, and so is fluent in using fibre, colour and texture in her pieces, which have been published several times in Rug Hooking magazine. She has taught more than forty classes and workshops from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland and California to Whitehorse.
