The Sundre & District Allied Arts Society presents

Russell deCarle

Friday, April 21, 2023

Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM

Canada’s own and much loved, award winning Russell deCarle, of Prairie Oyster fame, will be joining us at the Sundre Arts Centre on Friday, April 21!

It’s late and the bar is crowded. The music is loud and people are dancing. The bartender needs a smoke and you could use a smile, a conversation, a moment of recognition… But you are alone in this crowd, along with the singer Russell deCarle. Like him — and his music — you are holding it together with equal measures of heartbreak and hope. So join Russell; sink into his third album of songs that touch the heart, celebrate the truth, and provide warmth and company in the noise of the crowd.

ALONE IN THIS CROWD is the title of Russell deCarle’s third album; it feels like the soundtrack of a movie in the days just before they invented Technicolor. ALONE IN THIS CROWD offers a fluent collection of songs that mix southern soul and restrained balladry, with obvious touches of jazz, blues, old-school country, and western swing. Like his previous (debut) solo album Under the Big Big Sky, there are eight original songs and three covers.

As part of his Alberta tour, Russell will also be premiering some of the songs off of his upcoming fourth album.

Russell deCarle was the lead vocalist and bassist of the iconic Canadian country roots band PRAIRIE OYSTER. He is no stranger to awards and accolades — his “Oyster years” were rewarded with six Juno Awards, more than a dozen Canadian Country Music Awards, and enough gold and platinum records and #1 singles to fill a living room wall. Prairie Oyster was always more than a “country” band and deCarle’s warm, burnished, and intimate voice has honoured an eclectic range of songs.

Russell brings his brilliant players to Sundre; guitarist Steve Briggs and bassist Russ Boswell. Please join us in welcoming them to the Sundre Arts Centre! For more information and to preview music, please visit: https://russelldecarle.com/

ABOUT THE SUNDRE MUSIC SERIES: The Sundre Music Series is managed through a subcommittee of the Sundre & District Allied Arts Society’s Board of Directors. The Sundre & District Allied Arts Society is a registered non-profit with Alberta Corporate Affairs and registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency. Our volunteer organisation manages and maintains the Sundre Arts Centre facility. The Sundre Music Series was established to bring arts and culture to the Sundre Community through live music, as each concert acts as a very small fundraiser for the facility.
