Event description

Description

$15 advance, $20 cash at the door Please come and join Steven Martyn in his telling of a 35-year journey to the heart of agriculture. Through his stories he lifts the veil that blinds us to the origins of our western culture. Steven brings participants to the understanding that the foundation our cultural existence; food, medicine, buildings, textiles…. are gifts handed down to us from a time when people lived in a different way with each other and the Earth. Steven’s story of one person working in the wilds, informed by indigenous agricultural practices, throws a net of understanding out over the last thirty thousand years of history. Steven enables the participants to catch a glimpse of our peaceful ancestral home and of what life can be like here on Earth now. “Everything has intelligence and with that comes special magical gifts. We humans are unique in our way, not because of our big brain’s ability to reason as we might think, but through our ability to enter into an intersubjective ‘shamanistic’ state. These gifts, on which our civilization still entirely dependent, came to us from beyond the human world. We received this information through a fluidity of consciousness; by moving into the other realms of plants, animals, insects, birds, fish and rocks, to receive gifts from these older relations of ours.” Steven's books, "The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden" and "Sacred Gardening: Seeds for the Reemergence of Co-creative Agriculture" will be available for purchase. Steven Martyn, M.A. (traditional plant use), B.F.A. honours, artist, farmer, wildcrafter, builder, teacher, writer, visionary. He has given talks and run workshops internationally for more then twenty years and has taught at Algonquin college since 2000. In 2014 Megan and he started the Sacred Gardener Earth Wisdom School.
