About this event

The Sadie Grimm Celebration and Ride event is in celebration of Sadie Grimm's 1914 victorious gold medal enduro ride from Winnipeg to Winnipeg Beach. To commemorate her victory, to celebrate women riders and motorcyclings' role in Canadian history, all monies raised in the event will be used to construct a picnic shelter on the waterfront at Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park. Organizer Manitoba Women Riders Committee (MB WRC) of CMMG

Organizer of Sadie Grimm Commemorative Shelter Celebration and Ride

MB WRC members actively volunteer to promote women motorcycling in Manitoba. They volunteer as part of the Coalition of Manitoba Motorcycle Groups (CMMG). An annual meeting is held each February to discuss matters of importance to women riders. The WRC has been successful in lobbying:  to have more size-friendly clothing options for women riders, to have mechanical basics workshop for women riders, to have motorcyclist meetings, events, and websites more women-friendly (less sexist and abusive), to promote International Female Ride Day in conjunction with CMMG's kickoff for May as Motorcycle Safety Month, and to encourage electronic sites where women riders can meet up, to arrange a ride or just chat.

Since 2016, there has been an ongoing focus on celebrating the 1914 Gold Medal victory of Sadie Grimm, the first motorcyclist to complete the enduro ride from Winnipeg to Winnipeg Beach. The Sadie Grimm Celebration and Ride Committee is actively fundraising to build a commemorative picnic shelter at Winnipeg Beach, near the site Sadie Grimm rode to in 1914. The estimated cost for building the shelter, with all labour donated, is estimated to be $45,000. Just over $31,000. has been raised to April 28, 2020. Construction is expected to begin in May, 2020.
